Pre-testing provides laboratory results on how contaminated a home or structure is prior to any cleaning. Post-testing is performed after the structure or property has been decontaminated (cleaned up) to ensure all areas tested are clean and free of any meth residue. Most regulated states require post-testing, but not all states require pre-testing.
So, if my state does not require any pre-testing is it really necessary?
Without doing any pre-testing, you have to make the assumption that the entire structure is contaminated when that might not be the case. Or the levels of contamination might be below your state's threshold level and no decontamination is necessary. Twenty-five (25%) percent of structures that we perform pre-testing for are cleared by doing a complete Qualitative testing upfront. Plus without a complete qualitative pre-testing of the entire structure, one has to quote that the entire structure needs decontamination. Having complete lab results following a comprehensive inspection and qualitative pre-testing, will enable us to provide you a quote based on what areas of your structure need decontamination and what areas might not. This can save the property owner thousands of dollars. Without pre-testing and accurate lab results, the estimate for decontamination is just that an estimate. The only way to know for sure if your home or structure is contaminated is by testing.
If you simply want to know a yes or no answer of whether your property is contaminated with meth, call us toll free at (877) 260-4828 and order our In-Home Meth Test / Sample Kit. Actual results come from a certified laboratory via email. Great inexpensive way to find out if your property or the property you are thinking of purchasing is free of meth contamination. NOTE: This test is for informational purposes only; it will not serve for clearance testing as required by many regulated states.
If you simply want to know a yes or no answer of whether your property is contaminated with meth, ordering one kit allows you to take up to four wipe samples on four different surfaces or areas in the structure. The lab results with provide a positive or negative result.
If you want to know how high the level of meth is in each room, you need to order one kit for each room. The four wipe samples are taken from the same room (two from the ceiling (if floor is carpeted) and two from two walls in the same room).
FIRST - a preliminary site assessment is conducted to help determine the meth manufacture method. This will include physical inspection of the property to identify any present hazards, reviewing a copy of the state police meth occurrence report, speaking to the officer involved in the removal of the meth precursors. This information will help us provide a cleanup estimate.
SECOND - Pre-test wipe sampling is performed to establish the levels of meth residue. The samples are sent overnight to a certified EPA accredited laboratory for analysis. From the date the sampling is done on site, results from the lab are received in 3-5 business days. Once the results are in, a copy is provided to the property owner along with our initial assessment report and quote for decontamination of the structure.
Post-testing is done after the structure or property has been decontaminated (cleaned) to ensure all areas tested are clean and free of any meth residue. Post-testing is done in each room individually and the lab results provide an analysis of contamination levels per each room. No personal content items or carpeting and padding can be in the structure for post-testing. Do NOT do any painting or reconstruction work prior to post-testing. In regulated states most state laws mandate that clearence testing be done and that all levels in each room are below the standard listed for that state.
Vacuum Sampling - Porous items such as carpet, and upholstered furniture. Porous items cannot be effectively cleaned. Don't waste money on testing porous items.
Air Sampling - Not typically required, determines presence of VOC's.
Soil Sampling - Contaminants discarded outside the home into the ground can leach through soils.
Water Sampling - For well water, if obvious signs of effluent dumping, purge all water including well casing.
Septic Sampling - Sample each layer of sediment (may require 4 different tests). Check with local health department if Septic testing is required or if pumping is sufficient as permitted by some states without testing.
