COLUMBUS — Two men arrested in connection with a meth lab found at a mobile home park in West Columbus will face even tougher charges because of its proximity to two schools.

Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Todd Church, 34, and 24-year-old James McNew Thursday morning, while executing a search warrant at a mobile home located in the 3000 block of Valleyview Drive. A two-week investigation came to fruition when deputies cuffed the men about 8 a.m. and tore down an active meth lab found at Church’s trailer.

ABC6/Fox28 News’ Steve Levine reports the meth was being made and sold from the trailer.

Sheriff Zach Scott reports deputies discovered the meth lab while executing a search warrant about 8 a.m. in the 3000 block of Valleyview Drive. Undercover officers donned protective uniforms with gas masks as they brought potentially volatile meth-making paraphernalia out of the home.

The sheriff says the warrant was purposely executed during Christmas break due to the residence’s close proximity to nearby schools — Westmoor Middle School at 3001 Valleyview Dr. and Valleyview Elementary School at 2989 Valleyview Dr.

One of the schools could be seen across a grassy field that bordered the mobile home park.
