BASTROP COUNTY, Texas — A Bastrop County two-year-old was killed after officials say she was run over by a car this weekend.

According to the Austin American-Statesman, the toddler was hit Saturday around 1 a.m. while she and her mother were outside their house at 198 Watersedge Terrace. Bastrop County officials say the mother was saying good-bye to her friend in the driveway. When she and her daughter turned to go inside, the girl ran to the car and was then run over by it. She later died at Dell Children’s Medical Center.

Investigators say her 24-year-old mother Amber Morris was on methamphetamine at the time of the incident.

The car was driven by Morris’ friend Javier Martinez, 34. The Statesman reports that he was arrested on an active warrant for delivery of a controlled substance unrelated to Saturday’s tragedy. He could face additional charges in the future.
