METH TESTING...
Pre-testing and Post-testing.
Pre-testing provides laboratory results on how contaminated a home or structure is prior to any cleaning.  Post-testing is performed after the structure or property has been decontaminated (cleaned up) to ensure all areas tested are clean and free of any meth residue.

PRE-TESTING PROCEDURES:
Pre-testing is highly recommended to assess whether there is any meth residue in the structure and how much.  This could effect how much the decontamination costs are.  If the lab results reflect that only part of the structure is contaminated, then only part of the structure will require decontamination.  This is also where a physical on-site assessment and local police meth occurance report can also help determine the type of pre-testing that should be performed.  The meth test kits purchased over the internet are only going to show presence or absence of meth.  They are not considered legally defensible and are not recognized for clearance of a property.

Quantitative Testing:  Provides a rough estimate of how contaminated a home is.  Several rooms or areas are combined together instead of individually.  This testing is much less expensive and is recommended if you only want to know if your property is contaminated with meth or not and whether decontamination is required.

Qualitative Testing:
Qualitative testing is testing the whole house or structure room by room individually.  Four wipe samples are taken in each room (one from the ceiling, one from the floor and two from the walls) and put into one lab jar.  When the lab results are returned, it provides us an analysis of contamination levels of meth residue in each room separately.  This testing is more expensive, but could save money on the decontamination costs, if the entire house or structure is not contaminated with meth residue.

Post-testing or Clearance Testing:
Post-testing is done after the structure or property has been decontaminated (cleaned up) to ensure all areas tested are clean and free of any meth residue.  Post-testing is done in each room individually and the lab results provide an analysis of contamination levels per each room.   No personal content items or carpeting and padding can be in the structure for post-testing.  Do NOT do any painting or reconstruction work prior to post-testing.  In regulated states most state laws mandate that clearence testing be done and that all levels in each room are below the standard listed for that state.  To see your state standard check here

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF METH TESTING.

Sample wipe testing of surface
Wipe Sampling Jar
Vacuum Sampling -
Porous items such as carpet, and upholstered furniture.  Porous items cannot be effectively cleaned, Don't waste money on testing porous items.

Air Sampling -
Not typically required, determines presence of VOC's.

Soil Sampling -
Contaminants discarded outside the home into the ground can leach through soils.

Water Sampling -
If obvious signs of effluent dumping, purge all water including well casing.

Septic Sampling -
Sample each layer of sediment (may require 4 different tests).  Check with local health department if Septic testing is required or if pumping is sufficient as permitted by some States.
